In Intermediate Writing at Salt Lake Community College, we chose a topic and wrote about it three different ways: Profile, Report, and Position Argument. I chose autism because I work as an aide teacher for a school that specializes in teaching children with Autism.
In my Profile, I wrote about a mother and her family. Two of her children have autism and her third doesn't. I thought this was a great opener to the autism world.
I my Report, I wrote about what the autism is as defined by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention and The National Institute of Mental Health.
In my Position Argument, I wrote about the new release of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders next year and what that means to those with autism and those awaiting diagnosis.
I was also apart of a group project, and we created a poster to raise nutrition awareness in the community, because in a study we found that a child has a 80% change of becoming an obese adult if they are overweight.
